Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (x86) 3.14
Reviewing 3.12 (Oct 21, 2010)
I would have to say this is another typical poorly thought out product by some navel-gazing geeks in Redmond and whatever benefits there might be are not worth the hassle.
After 3 days of scanning my PC (without letting me select or even know what parts of the PC were going to be scanned), my only option was a checkbox saying 'Heal' and a 'Continue' button. Clicking that button prompted me with a warning that files might be harmed by this process and continuing THAT immediately started a process with again, zero feedback other than the squirrels were running on my machine.
Any other commercial grade software you use for virus checking etc will at least show you what files were infected by what. What kind of moron thinks up this type of user experience? At least there should be a 'find out what was infected' selection.
The irony of it is that after clicking the 'cancel' button on the 'healing process, the 'Healing in process' dialog box is still onscreen and you're locked in a loop of 'cancel' - 'are you sure'? Gotta use Task Manager to kill it.
Linux and Apple are going to continue to eat MS' lunch !
