FastPictureViewer 1.3.172

Reviewing 1.2.155 (Jul 26, 2010)

I don't understand the people who trash this program because it doesn't do what other Photo Manager+Editor does. Those programs are not designed specifically to be just a good picture viewer. I'm a photographer and this software sure is handy, especially to replace the epic slow native photo viewer of Windows 7 (Windows Live Gallery/Photo Viewer included).

I'm aware of IrfanView. I love it but at the moment, it's still too quirky for me. It's very difficult to get the window size/picture size correct/consistent all the time. I use IrfanView mostly just to batch process photos (resizing).

This program is fast when it comes to RAW. With JPEG, it is just probably on par with IrfanView, at least on my machine (2GHz Core Duo (not C2D) laptop, 4GB RAM). I'll test it again on my next i7 930, 6GB RAM when it arrives.

I like the interface as it keeps to the simpleness that a photo viewer should have. When I open a photo, I want to see the photo straight. The RGB histogram is definitely a plus.

One thing I don't like however is the menu bar on the bottom (which you can hide). It's too ugly. I certainly wouldn't mind if it's made to look more consistent with the Windows UI (which is boring but at least, not ugly).

All that being said, I'm still undecided whether to part with my very precious USD39 as it is a huge amount for me (3rd world country). I wouldn't mind buying this in a second if I have better purchasing power.
